How to Prevent Theft of Your Ebooks - Part 2: Stop Illegal Downloads
If you sell downloadable products (via ClickBank, PayPal, etc.), you need to be sure that no-one can access those products unless they've paid for them.
It's no secret that there are many people out there who will try to get to your download pages without paying for your product or, worse again, will make your download links available for free to others.
So what can you do to prevent this from happening?
Here are a few tips that won't provide 100% protection, but will ensure that the majority of users will not be able to easily access and steal your products.
1. NAMING YOUR DOWNLOAD PAGE
If you name your download page something like 'thankyou.html' or 'download.html' then it's a pretty simple process for the average hacker to locate your page and download your product. Give your download pages a complicated name that is neither easy to guess, easy to remember nor easy to recognize.
2. CREATE 'NESTED' DIRECTORIES
In keeping with point number 1, this is just a question of making it more difficult for the average hacker to find your download pages.
Let's say you're selling an ebook called "How to Make Your Hamster Happy". Now, let's say you're selling it at this URL: http://www.yourdomainname.com/happyhamster.
In this example, your sales page is contained in the directory called 'happyhamster'.
Now, rather than store your download page in this same directory, you can make life more difficult for the hacker by creating sub-directories (or 'nested' directories) for your download page.
Just create a sub-directory inside 'happyhamster' called, for example, 'srB45n' and another directory inside that one called 'trd12s' (or whatever) and then place your download page inside this directory. In this scenario, your download page would be contained at this, more hidden, address: http://www.yourdomainname.com/happyhamster/srB45n/trd12s
Another approach is to place your download page directory in a separate place altogether on your server - thus making it even more difficult for a hacker to track it down.
3. CREATE AN INDEX.HTM PAGE FOR EVERY FOLDER
If you don't have a page called 'index.htm' in the directory that contains your download page, then your host server will display a page listing the contents of that directory.
Here's an example of a directory that doesn't have an 'index.htm' page: http://bizzydays.com/example. As you can see, the contents of the directory are there for all to see (and download).
Your 'index' page can be a regular page from your site or you can make it re-direct the visitor somewhere else. You can see this idea in action by visiting http://bizzydays.com/free. As you can see, when you try to access that directory, you're immediately re-directed to the BizzyDays.com home page.
To create your own re-direct page, simply paste the following HTML code into Windows Notepad (or your web-editing software) and save it as 'index.htm' or 'index.html'. Now upload it to the folder you wish to protect.

Rules and Regulations for the Ebook Publishing Business.Michael HopkinsSome questions and answers in relation to the rules and regulations that apply to anyone wishing to start an ebook publishing business.
Q. 1 - Do I have to buy a business license to run a business website? If I decide to start an e-book publishing company, do I have to register it the State or Federal Government?
This is a quote from Angela Wu's "Online Business Basics" that should help answer these questions and other related issues...
[BEGIN QUOTE]
Business registration and licensing requirements will vary depending on where you live. This is not intended to be legal advice; please consult with a lawyer or your local chamber of commerce for information on your specific situation.
Check zoning regulations. Make sure that you are allowed to run a business from your home. Some residential areas may place restrictions on the types of businesses that can be run from your home. Try calling city offices first; if they don't have this information, they may be able to point you in the right direction.
Purchase any required licenses or permits. Once again, you will need to check with local authorities to find out what licenses and permits you need.
Decide on a business structure. Many Internet home businesses start out as sole proprietorships; visit the US Small Business Association for more information : http://www.sba.gov/starting_business/index.html
Register a business name. This is usually a quick and easy process. Start by calling your local government offices, or even the business department of your local bank. They should be able to tell you where you can register a business name.
Look into opening a business banking account. Make an appointment with your bank to discuss your situation. They'll be able to make suggestions on the best package for your needs.
Consult with professionals. Depending on your situation, you may need to use the services of lawyers, accountants or bookkeepers, insurance agents or brokers, and others.
This isn't an exhaustive list, but it's a good start. Many cities also have organizations dedicated to helping small businesses -- check your Yellow Pages or the local Chamber of Commerce to see if there's one in your area.

Q. 2 - Do I have to get an "ISBN" number for my ebooks, and if so - how do I go about doing that?
No, you don't need to have an ISBN. You'll find additional information here... http://www.00ebooks.com/ISBN-copyright.htm http://publishing.miningco.com/library/weekly/aa062797.htm
Q. 3 - Are there rules and regulations to ebook publishing or writing - and if so how can I find out what they are?
I'm not familiar with any rules or regulations associated with ebook publishing specifically. Basically, you need to stay within the limits of responsible legal and business behavior in general. Be truthful in your advertising, use disclaimers, and so on. You'll find details of the various regulations in this free ebook: http://www.bizzydays.com/downloads/WebLawLinks.exe I hope this goes some way towards answering your questions.

Customer Review: Quiet, reasonably fast, good value for money
All the complaints about noise seem to be from 2006. I bought mine in December 2007 and have no problems. I screwed up while jumping back and forth between WD's confusing variety of models, and got the model formatted for a MAC. I simply had to reformat it for my PC. Works perfectly. I use the 1394a interface -- one review claimed that doesn't work. I've used to to perform weekly full backups of two PCs with no problem.
Customer Review: What's with the NOISE??
A client sent this drive to my wife for her to transfer a large database and image set. When I hooked it up I couldn't believe how loud the fan was. My wife could hear it in the office next door. It looks like a good idea and the price is right, but the fan is way too loud.

Customer Review: Great guide and is in-depth
If you're like me, then you like Dan Birlew and the BradyGAMES Signature Series guides. These guides are very in-depth and after the Devil May Cry guide got this off to a great start, the Onimusha 2 guide keeps it going. I'll give you tons of reason why this is the best Strategy Guide (in my opinion) then any other Onimusha guide out there.
First of all, like any guide (or hopefully any guide), there is the walkthrough. This walkthrough is very in-depth with ultra detailed maps that pin-point every item! The walkthough is precise and quite possibly one of the most in-depth organized walkthrough from BradyGAMES to date. The author does a great job explaining the strategies, and talks about the better approach for Offensive and defensive battle tatics against bosses.
The game basics section is for me especially. If you don't feel you get enough explanation on attacks etc. from the instruction booklet (like me) then the game basics section does a great job on explaining just how to get critical hits, when is best to attack and when its best to just haul you butt out of there.
There is also a list included for trading items. The only gripe I have with this list (and the guide) is that this trading list isn't in alphabetical order, meaning you'll be reading up and down the list just to find if the item is worth trading to another. But they do explain how to trade and tell you what you'll get too!
The alliances to form are listed in the back of the book in a flowchart. This shows you just what path to take! But it also explains just how you should form alliances as well. They tell you what the benefits are as well.
The secrets and sidequests and telling you how to use each character (combos and everything are explained). The side quest are brillantly outlined and easy to use. They tell you who gets what too. The secrets also explain a lot about the different difficulty levels and the Man in Black mini game.
Lastly, the guide completely covers the Oni mini game with a tear out wall scroll to go along with it. This is a great guide and if you're going to get Onimusha 2 then you should definitely get this book!
On the Positive side:
+Great Maps!
+Great Strategies!
+Crystal Clear screens with helpful captions
+Hey! Its Signature series
+Tricks of Trade revealed
+Side Quests explained
+Both mini-games explained
+Game Basics actually help you learn the game better then the manual.
+Interview with Keiji Inafune!
But on the downside
-The trading items list is out of order
-Some boss strategies are a little too focused on defense

Customer Review: Sony Reader is great
The Sony reader is a great carry on for long travel. The only thing I wish it had was a backlight to read in low lighting situations, as when you have a light on it, the glare seems to get in the way of reading it.
Otherwise, I have probably sold 10 of them because of all the inquiries I've had on planes and a cruise I was on.
Customer Review: The best thing for readers!
I received this as a Christmas gift, but was eyeing this gadget for myself since Sony announced it. I use the Reader on a daily basis for several weeks now due to my long commute time and especially was grateful to have it while waiting for flights at the airport. I did have some hesitation at first since I do enjoy the actual feel of a book. Now that I have used the Reader, I wouldn't say there is any difference, I may not feel the actual paper but it's outweighted by the convenienve.
So many pros:
-Holds many books; If I finish a book, I have many more at my fingertips and can always remove the books from my Reader and add new ones.
-Lightweight; I carry this in my purse everyday and don't even notice it. It fits into any type of bag.
-Comfortable to use; Very easy to hold and navigate one handed.
-Screen; the screen is large and easy to read. I noticed many reviews listing the screen and the lighting as a negative, and I did agree prior to getting the Reader. Now, for me, it's a positive. I stare at a computer screen for hours everyday, and my eyes get very tired. Not so with the Reader, I can read for hours and not even feel any fatigue in my eyes. The screen and lettering is dark enough that I can read extremely easily but don't have the strain of staring at a bright, white background. And as one reviewer put it, you don't have lighting with a book and no one complains, there is no difference with this.
-Storage space; since all the books are maintained on my computer or the Reader, I never have to worry about where to put the books. And the Sony store allows me to re-download any books I purchased easily.
-Free books; Sony was running a promotion of 100 free classics when I received the Reader. Now who doesn't like free stuff?
-Battery life; the battery life is better then most other gadget battery lives. I can read several books before I have to re-charge the battery.
So few cons;
-Really don't like to Sony ebook store; it takes forever for the search and for the pages to load. Really hinders the impulse purchases (bad marketing in my opinion) or if I have to run out the door.
-No outlet charger, only USB; the Reader comes only with a USB cord and can be charged via the computer. This can be really inconvenient if you are traveling without a computer (vacations). You can load as many books as you need, but if the battery runs out mid traveling, it's useless. Sony should really devise an outlet charger.
-Price; the Reader is pretty expensive, but that is the case with all new gadgets. I just hope the price goes down as the technology becomes more prevalent.
-Nor really a con, but something I would really like: Ability to be able to lump books into a favorites, genre, "read" or any other kind of list. I download a bunch of books at one time and don't always remember the names exactly when I am ready to read it. I have to scroll through several pages of books to find the one I am looking for. Would really be helpful if I was able to segregate books the I have read, by genres, or possibly authors.
I would recommend the Reader to any avid reader.

Customer Review: Great Classic
Another great job by disney restoring this movie. Love the extras on the dvd like the game and the music video.
Customer Review: Good Movie for what it is
Like many I enjoyed this movie as a kid and I still think of it as a good movie. However as an advisory to those who have kids I pass along this advice. This is one of the big animated disney films based on a literary classic that takes liberty with the ending. Disney knows that its primary audience loves the happy ending. It is my feeling that had disney told the actual story of the little mermaid then this film would not have been as popular. When the mermaid becomes human it is a literally painful experience every step that she takes hurst and feels as if she is walking on needles. The mermaid also dies at the end of the book because the one she loves falls for someone else.
Now before any of you get on to me and think I'm bursting peoples enjoyment, I'm not. I enjoy this movie for what it is. Even though the ending is not the correct one I will say that disney does do a good job at keeping the overall story intact. The one thing that disney is going to take into consideration is that if it is going to do more animated movies on literary classics then they need to make sure that the ending is a happy one because that is what its audience on a regular basis expects the studio to deliver.

Customer Review: Review for Tot Tutors Book Rack Organizer
I had high hopes for this cute book rack for kids. But within a week one seam on the nylon fabric had split and shredded rendering 25% of the rack unusable. And, no, I didn't overload the rack. There were only 3 lightweight books in that slot. I'm not sure if it was a defect or poor quality fabric. It's not worth sending back as the shipping would amount to more than the benefit. I'll probably buy sturdier fabric and replace the nylon as the wood part of the rack seems to be ok.
Customer Review: Plastic sleeves
I had planned to purchase this item, but didn't after reading the reviews on Target's website. This item has plastic sleeves, not canvas. I will continue to look for a similar product with more longevity.

So few cons;

Tot Tutors Book Rack Organizer
Tot Tutors Book Rack Organizer
