Purpose of Books

Since the beginning of time stories were written and told. Stories and happenings were first written on walls as hieroglyphics and on cement tablets. Most early stories were non-fiction and told the story of what life was like way back when. As time developed so did reading and stories. Books were written for more pleasurable entertainment. Hans Christian Anderson wrote the some of the most famous Children's, books. He wrote hundreds of fairy tales and stories including, The Emperor's New Suite, The Ugly Duckling, The Princess and the Pea and The Red Shoes. There were many other famous children's books such as Cinderella, Goldie Locks and The Three Little Bears, and The Little Mermaid. These books were all were written to entertain the young at heart. These were also call fiction books because they told fantasy stories. From the early day of school I remember reading a bout Dick and Jane. This was a chapter book written strictly to develop a child reading habits and vocabulary. Non fiction books tell us a true story, while biographies tells about a specific person's life. An Autobiography is a story written by people about themselves like Helen Keller, The Story of My Life. Then there are the classics such as Julius Caesar, Huckleberry Fin, Moby Dick, and Tom Sawyer. Legions, such as The Legend of Sleepy Hallow by Washington Irving bought us a little mystery. Fables were written with a moral to every story. Remember the story of The Hare and the Tortoise? The hare thought it could beat the tortoise easily in a race so it slacked off and the tortoise won the race. And the great tall tales, such as The Story of Paul Bunyan bought us great entertainment.
Informational books come in all different types. You have dictionaries, encyclopedia A-Z, atlas, almanacs, newspapers, magazines and a variety of other resources. Books now come on cassettes, tapes, CDs, and online and as movies.
It is easy to see there are books for all occasions, seasons and for many reason. Books come in all shapes and sizes, but one important purpose should be to lean and enjoy! If you are a big fan of reading and enjoying good stories visit www.bestsellerreports.com. Here you will find more information on books and stories

Free Downloads Books -Google allow

NEW YORK 29Aug -- Google Inc. on Wednesday plans to begin letting consumers download and print free of charge classic novels and many other, more obscure books that are in the public domain.

Using Google's Book Search service, Web surfers hunting titles like Dante's "Inferno" and Aesop's "Fables" will be able to download PDF files of the books for later reading, to run keyword searches or to print them on paper. Up to now, the service only allowed people to read the out-of-copyright books online.

Google's Book Search service is the product of its Books Library Project, which is digitizing books from major libraries around the world in order to make them searchable online. Its partners include the University of Michigan, Harvard University, Stanford University, Oxford University, the University of California and the New York Public Library. Google is also conducting a pilot project with the Library of Congress.

Google supports the service by showing its small, keyword-generated text ads on search-results pages.

The download initiative does not include any books under copyright. For these titles, Book Search only displays basic bibliographic information and, in many cases, small snippets of text surrounding a search term, unless it has permission from the publisher to show more. The company's display of snippets has riled some publishers, but Google has argued the small bites of text constitute fair use.

Customer Review: A Must Own Collection

These films are no doubt part of American Cinema at it's best!

I grew up watching these movies and even today when I sit back and watch them, I appreciate them even more as if it's my first time tunning in.

The locations, the acting, the screenplay all work perfectly. I don't think there are words left to describe how amazing this collection is on DVD.

I heard George Lucas is set to release these films on it's own soon, but why bother? Why spend your money on the same thing, even if your going to get some new bonus features. It's not like your getting a brand new movie.

I would recommend to wait until the 4th installment hits DVD shelves, then maybe it would be worth a purchase if it gets released into the box set. Till then...this collection is timeless!

Customer Review: captions

At least on the set I'm watching, the captions on the extra disc are attempted but are NOT well done. It's apparent that they haven't been "cleaned up," so understanding can be iffy. I appreciate the effort, but it would be nice if the execution were better.

How to Find Cheap College Textbooks

College students dread the start of every semester. This is because of the rising tuition fees, school supplies and textbooks. Every year, the cost of college is getting higher. It is only wise that students should learn how to cut costs and find alternatives in saving money.

Are you a college student who wants to save money? Worry no more! Did you know that you can save hundreds of dollars with college textbooks? Here are some tips that would help you save a lot of money with textbooks.

1. Save money on used books. Instead of buying a new one, why not consider a used textbook? You can ask other students who are done with the subject if they have the book you are looking for. There are also web sites on the Internet that sell cheap college textbooks.

2. Look for other alternatives. You may consult with your professor if you can buy the older edition of the book. An older edition of a college textbook almost has the same content as the newest edition most of the time. Buying an older edition can save you almost half the price of the latest one.

4. Required or recommended? Ask your professor whether the book is required or just recommended. If the book is just recommended, you may just read the book from your college library.

5. Avoid package deals. There are college textbooks that come with other materials which you do not really need. Buying in package costs higher and will only waste your money if you do not need the other materials. You can save if you buy the book separately.

6. Buy online. Online bookstores were proven to offer cheaper books than regular bookstores. Online bookstores do not have the overhead cost which only adds up to the price of the book. Buying a book online is also more convenient plus you can order books right away.

7. Share with a friend. You may also try sharing a book with one of your classmates. This can help you cut the amount that you have to allot for the textbook. However, it is important that you become responsible when taking turns on the textbook.

8. You may also consider bartering with a student who has the book you need. This will save you money from buying a new one. There will surely be someone from your university who is looking for a book you used last year. Be aggressive enough to find students in need of your books and can barter the books you need.

9. Buy early. Remember that prices are high and supplies are low. College textbooks usually cost higher during the start of the semester. You can buy the book as soon as you get your books-to-buy list from your professor. Buying early or off season will save you hundreds of dollars.

Cheap college textbooks are never difficult to find. Remember to strategize and negotiate in order to save money from these books. Take care of your books and never write on them. They might be of great help in the future.

Elvis on Tour

Elvis on Tour
Customer Review: Elvis on Tour

We follow Elvis from city to city. He dons jumpsuits and gains weight. We see his increasing boredom. Elvis disintegrated after his divorce from Priscilla. Lyrics became morbid. Burning Love was the last big hit. His records were good until the end, but there was little recording the last two years. The film got the Golden Globe Award for Best Documentary. It is chaotic but worth it because it is candid Elvis. The quote from his father about guitar players not being worth a damn would not have come out a decade earlier. Elvis' songlist is filled with hits by other artists. His own Lawdy Miss Clawdy sounds as sexy today as it did in the beginning.

Customer Review: The greatest entertainer of all time in fine form.

Elvis in 1972 was still at the top of his game, lean and mean and energetic. In "Elvis on Tour" we get a fantastic snapshot at the King in top form; I only wish 1 - that it was available on DVD and 2- that some of the concerts with clips included in the movie were available on video in their entirety. Very highly recommended!

I highly recommend this book to someone who is taking supplements or considering taking supplements.

Customer Review: Outstanding

I'm going to get right to the point. This book is great. It does exactly what it claims, and nothing less. It's a perfect introductory guide to geocaching, but I'm sure experienced cachers can gain something from it also. It is informative, well written, and purposeful. I also would like to pmention that it is the official guide book of [...], the company that runs [...]. Lastly, I would like to point out that the only 2 bad reviews of this book that were posted at the time that I'm writing this are from someone that didn't receive the book in the mail and therefore is angry at amazon (why they take it out on THIS book, i have no idea), and some PhD in psych that cant even read a map (she admits this in her post)... go figure. In closing, I am very satisfied with this book and am glad that this is the guidebook I chose to help get me started with geocaching. Happy Hunting

In closing, I am very satisfied with this book and am glad that this is the guidebook I chose to help get me started with geocaching. Happy Hunting

Customer Review: Excellent introduction to geocaching

Bought this as a present for my father who is a geography teacher and has just gotten into geocaching as a hobby. An excellent introductory guide to the hobby, easy to read and entertaining.

e-Books Can Put You On A Fast Track To Success

You've probably heard about e-books--they're everywhere on the Internet, and it seems like everyone is writing them. You've probably even thought about writing one yourself. But, what to write about? You need some e-book ideas.

First, e-books are electronic books that are downloaded and saved onto your computer. Some e-books must be purchased, and some are even free. You can read them directly from your computer, or print them out to read at any time. The intriguing thing about e-books is that you can cut out most all of the middle men (agents, publishers, wholesalers) and take care of all the work yourself (writing, editing, formatting, copywriting, and selling). E-books are a great idea for those of you who want to be more independent in your success. Plus, by using e-books, your success can come much quicker than with a traditional print book.

Now that that's cleared up, let's start thinking about some e-book ideas.

You may already know what you want to write about--great! But make sure it's a topic that people are going to be interested in reading. Otherwise, don't expect big sales. Whether you know what you want to write about or you simply know you want to write, when thinking about good, profitable e-book ideas, check to see if your topic is one that is in demand. A couple of good tools for this in Online Gold Finder (http://pyoeb.lightsped.hop.clickbank.net) and NicheTopics (http://pyoeb.5millbucks.hop.clickbank.net).

When thinking about e-book ideas, remember to also consider your knowledge of the topics. The phrase "write what you know" applies to e-book ideas just as it applies to all writing. Write about something you know a good deal about and about something that people want to know a good deal about. See the connection? Also, do a little research as to how much information already exists on your topic. If you know a good deal about both the circus and underwater basket weaving, and find that there is a demand for information on both topics, look around to see which topic already has the most information out there. If there are 100 e-books already in circulation about the circus, but only 8 about underwater basket weaving, consider underwater basket weaving as one of your e-book ideas. There is both an interest and a demand.

Expansion Pak For Nintendo 64

Expansion Pak For Nintendo 64
The Expansion Pak allows the random access memory (RAM) of the Nintendo 64 console to increase from 4 megabytes (MB) to 8 MB of contiguous main memory. With the help of an included key, the Expansion Pak fits into the slot that is below a removable panel on the top of the N64 console. Game developers can take advantage of the increased memory in several ways, including making games that are more visually appealing. Some games will allow players to choose a "high-resolution" option, increasing the screen resolution from 320 by 240 pixels to as much as 640 by 480 pixels--creating crisp, high-definition graphics. The Expansion Pak utilizes Nintendo 64's capability for 32-bit, 16.7-million-color display with 256 levels of transparency (alpha)--bringing your games to a new level of realism. Instead of reusing texture data, games can buffer a larger number of textures for a more distinct look.

Other ways for developers to utilize the larger memory is by setting a higher frame rate, longer replays, and more animations. Games also can have more sophisticated artificial intelligence, which allows computer-controlled characters to be smarter, literally. Games can offer more characters and vehicles, and contain larger, more complex levels and worlds. Some games like The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask require the Expansion Pak, while others such as Perfect Dark require it for access to all of the game's levels and features. See our list of Nintendo 64 games that take advantage of the Expansion Pak's extra power.

Customer Review: A nice inexpensive way to enhance visual clarity on an aged console

The Nintendo 64 memory expansion pak upgrade is not vital for the most part, in terms of plugging up and playing many of the great titles already released for this console. But there are a few titles that absolutely require this upgrade. The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask and Donkey Kong 64 are two such titles for example, that cannot be accessed without this upgrade. Perfect Dark is one such title which offers minimal gameplay and locks players out of many of it's richer features due to the lack of available memory to run all of it's features properly. But I think you'll find that even if Donkey kong 64, Perfect dark, or Zelda Majora's Mask isn't your thing, you'll still be wanting to consider purchasing this Ram expansion for a few key reasons.

1)Improved gameplay details. A lot of games weather you know this or not offer very fine gameplay oriented details not available without extended memory. Most games are capable of improved framerate (improves quality of onscreen action. Prevents slow down effects when a lot of on screen action is occuring for example.) Programers can implement more textures and details to environments and characters making things look more lively or life like. AI (artificial intelligence) can be improved and become "smarter".

2) The second drastic improvement is audio/visual quality. Most people that don't understand how computer games really work or don't know all the technical terms, have a commen misconception that this expansion pak is supposed to improve the graphics in a way that might take the console beyond it's 64 bit capabilities. This isn't true. Rather, the expansion pak improves color quality and helps to reduce the blurry effect of the colors in most games, creating better visual clarity. Much of the blocky character sprites (but not all of course) will appear smooth and less blockish or choppy. With the improved framerate you may even notice how the environment in some games can pan out further while maintaining a smooth look, allowing the player to see further away from the character than they could with the jumper pak.

...The memory expansion for N64 is relatively cheap now that the console itself is two generations removed behind Gamecube and Wii. And if your still into retro gaming or just enjoy playing the Nintendo 64 even after all these years I would certainly recommend this buy. Even if you never play the games which require the upgrade, I would consider this because of it's ability to enhance visual clarity. Couple the memory expansion up with a Video-S cable, and you will still find an appeal to the outdated graphics of a system of yore.

Customer Review: Poor

Coco

Coco
Singer/songwriter Colbie Caillat is one of the most celebrated artists to emerge from the growing talent pool of digitally-savvy self-launched artists, whose rise to prominence as the #1 unsigned artist on the popular myspace site has been largely due to her refreshing sense of understatement.

With no marketing push and only the power of the music behind her, Caillat became a sensation on the social networking site. Rolling Stone highlighted her as one of the top female artists on myspace. Ultimately, her number of friends swelled to more than 100,000. Her profile has been visited over 3 million times, and she has more than l0 million plays. She's currently averaging 50,000 + a day.

The songs on Caillat's debut album COCO mirror the Malibu-born Caillat's low-key, refreshing style. Armed with her acoustic guitar and her dusky vocals, she evokes the same gentle, yet spirited style of her musical influences John Mayer, Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill and The Weepies. The laid-back tempo of Hawaii, where she spent twice annual family vacations, is echoed in the music.

"She's the real thing," stated Monte Lipman, President of Universal Republic Records. "From her unique songwriting skills to her powerful but understated presence, Colbie has connected to millions of music lovers simply through the power of her music.

Customer Review: Dissapointed

I have really tried to like this album but I get bored every time I listen to it. Ms. Calliat's songs are as forgettable as her voice. I'm not sure why so many people are so crazy about her.

Customer Review: A lot better than I was expecting

I got this CD for my wife, thinking that it would be a safe pop album, like the songs you hear from it on the radio. It was that, and much more. It is more interesting and complex musically than most albums by rock bands. The apparent influences of this album vary from reggae to big band, even rock. The songs are all unique (something surprising in a "pop" album). The last song, Capri, is a little odd, but that is the case on many contemporary rock albums. If you like pop, buy this album. If you like contemporary adult rock, buy this album. If you like heavier rock and, like me, are reading this review to see if this CD is worth buying for someone else, buy, give it a good listen, download the good songs (legally of course) and then pass it on. It's really great.

One Man Band [CD + DVD]

One Man Band [CD + DVD]
James Taylor's "One Man Band," a new CD/DVD set of live recordings and the stories behind the songs. The set list is drawn from Taylor's recent concerts at the Colonial Theatre in the Berkshires and features new performances from some of the iconic singer/songwriter's most beloved recordings including "Something in the Way," "Carolina in my Mind," and "Fire and Rain," interspersed with Taylor's insightful and humorous anecdotes on the inspiration for the songs.

For the DVD portion of "One Man Band," Taylor called on veteran television events producer and director Don Mischer ("Kennedy Center Honors," and "Super Bowl XLI Halftime Show with Prince") and executive producer and acclaimed filmmaker Sydney Pollack ("Out of Africa," "Sketches of Frank Gehry") and their extensive talents to properly capture the feel of the live concerts. "One Man Band" tells the story of Taylor's songs through exclusive interviews and rare multi-media footage, including home movies and photographs from Taylor's personal archives. The result is an extraordinary, one-of-a-kind portrait of an artist, his renowned repertoire and the personal stories behind the songs.

Over the course of his career, James Taylor has sold over 40 million albums, and won over 40 gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards as well as five GRAMMY® Awards. Taylor's first "Greatest Hits" album earned him the RIAA's elite Diamond Award, given for sales in excess of 10 million units in the United States. In 2000, Taylor was inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fame. In February 2006, The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences named Taylor its MUSICARES Person of the Year.

Cranium Hullabaloo

Cranium Hullabaloo
This game is sort of like Twister meets Simon Says. Lay the Hullabaloo pads around on the floor about two 'kid's feet' away from each other. The pads are different shapes and colors and have pictures and words on them. Turn on the game console and the cheerful music begins, a happy voice welcomes you to the game and then gives the simple directions you'll need to play. "Jump on a square shape," "Slide over to a red shape," "Hop to a shape with an animal on it" and so on. Then it might tell you to freeze, or to put a body part on one pad, and then a different body part on another. Then, it'll tell you that if you are on a particular pad at the end of that round, you are the winner. We found it to be fun, and easy to understand--though we did wonder how long it might hold a child's interest. --Megan Sullivan

Customer Review: kids LOVE this

This is one of those toys that gets the kids up an moving. Fun music, fun 'rewards' = "do a silly dance". they LOVE it. I am always looking for ways to 'reach' my boy who has autism. This just helps initiate play.

Customer Review: Children probably need to be at least five years old

I was so excited to get this toy after reading all of the awards that it had won. We have a 4, soon to be 5, little girl and a just turned 2 girl as well. I thought that at least the 4 year old could really enjoy it with her sister just "acting" like she was playing along. These girls are both very bright, but I believe that it will take another 6 months for them to be able to really play this together. I may have to sit down with them and just reveiw all of the different shapes and colors and drawings that are on the pads that the game is centered around. I had their Dad sit down with them because I was busy cooking breakfast......I think that someone with a little more patience has to be prepared to sit down with the young ones and maybe review the items with them.......other than that, I can't wait until I get the chance to do it with them.....it seems like a lot of fun for them and my kind of toy....educational.

Black Contact Paper, 18" x 75'

Black Contact Paper, 18" x 75'
Adds decorative accents to any horizontal or vertical surface. Each roll features an easy-to-peel liner and an adhesive that allows it to be repositioned during installation without leaving a sticky residue. It’s easy to apply, easy to remove, and easy to keep clean. Simply cut to length and shape for a custom application.

Customer Review: contact paper has a zillion uses!

I have always liked the simplicity of using contact paper to "clean up" otherwise old or messy looking spaces. I am not saying that I would use contact paper to cover furniture in the home if you are wanting a classy or "rich" look! But, as a school teacher teaching in a very old building with very old tables that are dull and mismatched and have little finish left on them to clean them properly...a little contact paper really can pull together the "look" and it is very easy to clean! I have used contact paper to cover gross looking tiles on classroom walls, to dress up my old chipped desk, dented file cabinet and even to cover containers such as margarine tubs or juice cans - there is such a variety of colors and patterns out there that you can coordinate both to come up with a solution to a drab decor! It sticks smoothly and evenly, takes a short time to complete the job, wears well over time (as long as you are careful not to purposely abuse the area or put it on something that will obviously get mistreated!)

Children appreciate a classroom that is fresh and interesting and "fun" to work in....contact paper has always come through for me in these 16 years of teaching and one more thing....you can change it out inexpensively as you wish.

Customer Review: Auto shut off is annoying

Seems reliable, quiet, and fast enough... but i really don't like the auto shut off feature. If you don't use it for 10 minutues it shuts down. When you try to access a file from it again, it goes back on. I could be working on a file, step away for a minute, then come back to it and save... and then it has to spin up again just to save. This takes a few seconds every time this happens, which slows me down.

Also... I am unsure of the longevity of an electronic item which is constantly going on and off. In any electronic device, a surge is sent through the device when powering up. We all know that this process of starting up is what wears electronics out, and decreases their life.

So.... if there is someone out there that knows how to turn this feature off... please let me know. I would love it if without auto shut off.

Customer Review: Great price for the amount of storage.

This is the second Western Digital HD that I purchased and I am very happy with the ease and speed of transfers.

Anne of Green Gables

Anne of Green Gables
This gorgeous adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic children's story is well worth watching with the whole family. Produced for Canadian television, it's one of those rare productions that actually sticks to the book and even enhances it through first-rate performances and an excellent script. Set on bucolic Prince Edward Island in the late 19th century, Anne of Green Gables is the story of Anne Shirley, an imaginative and headstrong orphan. When brother and sister Marilla and Mathew Cuthbert decide to adopt an orphan boy to help Matthew work the farm, they are astonished when Anne arrives at the train station by mistake. "What use is she to us?" grumbles the gruff Marilla. "We might be of some use to her," answers Matthew, who has taken an instant liking to the talkative Anne. As Anne grows up, her adventures are both hilarious and moving. It's a delight to watch as she forms a friendship with the beautiful Diana and her admirer--the dashing Gilbert Blythe--then dyes her hair green, cracks a slate over Gilbert's head when he calls her "Carrots," and finds a sympathetic teacher who encourages her to attend college.

Richard Farnsworth is perfect as the shy and gentle bachelor Matthew, who confides to Anne that he never went courting because "I would have had to say something." Colleen Dewhurst delivers a nuanced and powerful performance as Marilla, a seemingly cold-hearted spinster whose no-nonsense exterior conceals a warm heart. And as Anne, Megan Follows strikes the perfect note, maturing from freckle-faced orphan to elegant and poised young woman. --Elisabeth Keating

Customer Review: A film for teachers that don't want to teach...

Films are amazing because they can literally take any shape, any sound, any form, and any size. They are the chameleon of entertainment. As a viewer, you cannot jump into a film with expectations, because due to the circumstances listed above, one may never know the particular outcome. Films can arrive in forms of made-for-television releases, direct-to-DVD releases, or through mainstream venues. It is a magical moment beginning a film through the ending - there is a level of unknown as well as random emotions throughout. "Anne of Green Gables" was one of those surprise random moments for me where I didn't know what to expect, but went through a barrage of emotion before arriving to this conclusion. In film, it may be cliché to say "size does matter", but with exploding budgets and timelines over 120 minutes, size is becoming a hot commodity in Hollywood. "Anne of Green Gables" is one of those low budget, little screen book adaptations that literally takes every page and puts it in cinematic lights. Carrying both positive and negative attributes, "Anne of Green Gables" takes three hours of your life, puts it in a made-for-TV blender, blends, and forces you to drink the resulting concoction. How does it taste going down? Don't worry - that is what I am here for.

"Anne of Green Gables" begins with Anne's life in an orphanage, living with uncaring foster parents, all the way through her lavish life with her new parents, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. She goes through the struggles of being an independent woman living in a prim and proper world. Leading us as Anne is Megan Follows, a young girl with a television filled resume, who provides us with the shell of Anne, but not quite the full-body development. Follows is my first experience with Anne, and since there is little to judge, I must admit she was follow-able, but not quite developed. The words that she engulfed were charismatic, she defined the role, but when she walked, cried, or ran - she didn't seem to be that same Anne again. Follows felt like a stage actress trapped in an invisible cinema box. Either she wasn't allowed the explore all the elements, or she just didn't have to. This film was your typical made-for-TV movie that didn't need actors escaping their shells because they had picturesque views and longevity on their side. They were telling a story, not winning awards - and with this film it was obvious. Don't yell - I did like what Follows did, I just didn't love her performance. Perhaps a stack rankings of all the others that portrayed Anne would allow Fellows' performance to stand out, but watching this film alone - something just felt missing. Richard Farnsworth's Matthew was another abandoned character, with no emotion and void of life. Every time he opened his mouth, nothing of excitement protruded. Colleen Dewhurst was the cliché angry woman, unwilling to change, yet something about Anne eventually brings her to a new understanding of life. These two were the leading figures around Anne, and working together they provided a good story - but poorly developed characters. There was minimal emotion surrounding them as they went from scene to scene. For these actors, it was obviously a job; they allowed the movie to tell the story.

Having never read the story of Anne and her adventures at Green Gables, director Kevin Sullivan should be commended for bringing such a drab story to life. The adventures of the protagonist Anne includes minimal excitement, the cliché drunken friend, the death of a loved one, the adolescent blurts of English - all can be found in other films of this nature like "Little House on the Prairie" or any "After School Special", but Sullivan did bring some snippets of joy to this story. He made it long, which allowed us to sink into the environment, believe that it was forced, and yet one can find simple joys in the stagy-ness of it all. Sullivan's direction was impeccable; he took no risks, created nothing original, and played it by the book. He allowed the story to grow, but again, there wasn't much story to grow. Anne stays in one place, runs around everywhere, and grows an iconic challenge with a local boy who is equally as talented (and equally as drab). I am not a pre-teen girl, I am missing the "bosom" friend, and obviously this film wasn't targeted towards my demographic, but it should still entertain. Anyone who argues that they could sit through such lifeless characters must be first in line to the new Larry the Cable Guy film. While I am drawing random tangents, my point is the meat was missing from this adventure. The scenery was fantastic, the pacing was fluent, but our characters could not bring me to a second viewing. Where was the passion in this film? Why did Sullivan allow cardboard to grace his screen?

Overall, "Anne of Green Gables" was a lengthy film, with cardboard characters, but a plethora of beautiful scenes. There wasn't much music to talk about, outside of the same three chords played over and over again. Richard Farnsworth proved yet again that his name filled his resume, while Megan Follows played her part while keeping within her self-proclaimed box. As a reviewer of films, I want to see progression, development; strong single elements that make each film stand out from the cattle of the rest. With this film it felt safe, it was a family film that took no risks, it felt like a Styrofoam box on the ocean - you really should take it out, but you worry about getting wet and sea creatures. "Anne of Green Gables" was an 80s film without the pizzazz. If I had a daughter who wanted to watch this film, I could hope it would help her sleep. Coupled with the characters, the story is ironically bland, and even the director didn't push for risks. It was a film. I was happy when it was over, could never dream about watching it again, yet I can't fault it for anything dramatic. It wasn't the greatest made-for-TV film, but there is little to complain about.

It was sterile. It was cardboard. It was copper.

Grade: ** 1/2 out of *****

Customer Review: Classic

I bought this movie for my daughter and she has watched it many times, she loves the movie. She also had a movie party with her friends, they all came over to watch it, everyone enjoyed it.

Wii Zapper with Link's Crossbow Training

Wii Zapper with Link's Crossbow Training
With the Wii Zapper, your game shooting experience is guarenteed to take on a whole other dimension. Your Wii remote and nunchuck fit snugly into the Zapper, still working as well as before, only now in a shape that, when simulating the use of a weapon such as a gun or bow, allows for a steadier hand that is much less likely to get tired. Included with the Zapper is Link's Crossbow Training for the Wii, a clever and engaging shooting game set in the world of Twilight Princess that includes 27 different levels, several different game modes and multiplayer capability up to four people. Link's Crossbow Training is ESRB Rated T for Teen.

Customer Review: Wii Crapper

Nintendo is selling you a two cent piece of plastic and a video game that will make its way to bargain bins around the world for less than two dollars in a few months. The Wii Zapper isn't needed to play shooters on the Wii. In fact it only hinders the gameplay with a poorly implemented trigger that doesn't feel as tight as actually pressing the B button on the wii remote yourself. I am astounded that Nintendo has the guts to release this for twenty dollars on the unsuspecting public. Its hardly worth what they sell it for and you'll end up with a useless hunk of junk cluttering your home and years later you'll wonder why you even wasted your time and money. You can play all of the shooters with just the wii remote and nunchuck.

As for the game; Link's Crossbow Training will hold your interest for about five minutes you might as well just purchase Ghost Squard for thirty bucks and get a full game for the near 20 you'll spend for what barely amounts to a game and a useless hunk of junk.

Customer Review: Zapping

Well, sure enough Link's Crossbow Training is fun, but it's more like it's name: training. The Wii Zapper is slightly difficult for use, especially if you want to try for rapid fire. The game is simply there to help people get used to wielding it while playing other games where it might have use. Otherwise, it's not a must-have.

Coco

Faithbooking: Preserving Your Faith Through Your Scrapbooks

?We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done.? Psalm 78:4

When you get down to it, the reason we scrapbook is to tell a story. The story of our lives, the milestones we?ve reached, the journeys we?ve gone on, the trials we?ve endured and the joys we?ve shared. That is what is found in each scrapbook page.

But if you are a person of faith, do you include how you prayed through the trials, leaned on your church family through your journeys and praised God for answering prayers? So often we forget to give credit to the Lord in our layouts for obvious demonstrations of His love for us!

Faithbooking is much more than just adding Bible verses to your pages. It is more like a prayer journal with photos, a way to preserve your faith through the art of scrapbooking! Since most prayer journals are private and highly personal in nature, you can use faithbooking or praisebooking, as other have called it, as a tangible way to share your faith with those you love!

Just think of the amazing treasure your children will have once you?re gone. Generations to come will see how your faith affected your life. So many of us have heard the legacies of our ancestors? faith, but have little to show for it except stories passed down through the family. Faithbooking can not only serve as a family treasure, but a creative way to follow Psalm 78:4 and tell other generations of God?s wonders in our lives.

Many people prefer their faithbooking to be quite simple, with just some photos and journaling, but just as God works in many ways, I believe we all have our own personal faithbooking style. If you keep your focus on God?s hand in your life and not on making a page worthy for the cover of your favorite scrapbook magazine, I think your pages will show your faith in a way that is yours alone!

There are a growing number of companies that are making products just for Christians. I've found everything from papers, stickers, charms and eyelets with a Christian theme. While these are necessary to faithbooking, they do make nice additions to your pages and can help bring your pages together nicely.

Remember, faithbooking is all about God working in your life! There is no wrong way to do it if you keep your focus on Him!

The Secret (Extended Edition)

The Secret (Extended Edition)
Not really a movie or documentary, The Secret is more of a video seminar, a presentation featuring a series of authors, philosophers, doctors, quantum physicists, entrepreneurs, and spiritual practitioners expounding on the powers of The Secret (probably the most well-known of the presenters is Jack Canfield, author of Chicken Soup for the Soul and The Success Principles). What is The Secret, exactly? "That principle can be summed up in three simple words: thoughts become things," proclaims writer Mike Dooley, author of Notes from the Universe. Put it another way, it's The Power of Positive Thinking and how it can be applied to attracting more money, better health, and relationships; in short, happiness. (There is a rundown of topics on the DVD Chapters menu).

Most of the material here is given in a straightforward manner, with the presenters simply talking into the camera to address the audience directly, which is good because it avoids the trap of pretense. On the other hand, the quick edits between presenters (would it hurt to let them say more than one sentence at a time?) don't help because it reduces many of their points to palatable sound bites and aphorisms. To many viewers, this may make the program come across as a series of nice ideas not rooted in reality. Plus it's somewhat spurious to claim that The Secret was well understood and practiced by specific individuals like Plato or Shakespeare (it's well known that some of the historical figures noted didn't exactly live happy or even prosperous lives, despite their achievements). But still, the primary message is one of positivity and hope for everyone. So what to make of it? In the end, programs like this generally find an audience that is open to the message, and many will probably find it to be a source of inspiration. Others will approach it with a good deal of skepticism or dismiss it as another way of marketing happiness the masses. It simply won't resonate with everyone, but if it resonates with you, you're likely to enjoy it and get a lot out of it. Those looking for more on The Secret might want to check out the companion book by Rhonda Byrne. --Daniel Vancini

Customer Review: NEGATIVITY NEVER GOT ANYONE ANYWHERE - Cheesy but WONDERFUL

It can be cheesy - you know the music and the sound bites, but seriously, this is a GREAT DVD to OWN. So some of us may know the secret or think we know it, but it helps to have this DVD on hand to watch to inspire us and remind us of what we have to do, what we are capable of, and how we are the makers of our own destinies. I found it inspiring and although you think things like "Follow Your Bliss" and "You are the designer of your own destiny" may be cheesy or obvious, the messages in THE SECRET are ones that we may think we know, but forget or really don't live by. I watched this online and want to buy the DVD to have on hand to watch at home when I start to get negative and feel defeated. It's funny that this DVD is meant to help people see the positive and forget the negative and these reviewers all focused on the negative. Maybe they should be watching this DVD over and over. Buy it and Watch it over and over!

Customer Review: Life altering

This movie, along with the book will change your outlook on life for the better. Put the ideas and thoughts to practice and the world is your oyster.

Even if you're the happiest person on earth, this will make you happier.

It's quite remarkable.

Every living person, young and old, should see this film and read the book of the same name.

What a wonderful world it would be.

Hannah Montana "Best of Both Worlds" Singing Doll

Hannah Montana "Best of Both Worlds" Singing Doll
Since debuting as the Disney Channel's highest rated premiere, Hannah Montana has won over fans with a mix of playful antics, fresh looks, and chart-topping music. The story centers on young Miley Stewart (a girl-next-door type fans can relate to) who just happens to lead the secret life of pop star Hannah Montana (something fans can aspire to). This singing doll is fashioned on her pop sensation persona and includes the clothing, accessories, and even hit music from the show.

Best of Both Worlds
Hannah comes with a mic, brush, poster, and back stage pass.

The 13-inch-tall Hannah is wearing an authentic, albeit miniature, version of an outfit she actually wore on her sold out 70-city tour: black boots, shimmery leggings, a tiered mini-skirt, a print T-shirt, black leather jacket, and bracelet. Other accessories that come with the doll include a small brush to help style her long locks, a backstage pass for you to wear, a poster, and a microphone for Hannah to hold while performing. This last piece is crucial because when it is lifted to Hannah's mouth, the doll actually sings the show's theme song (and her most popular hit) "Best of Both Worlds."

If you prefer her song "The Other Side of Me" there is another Hannah doll available separately. And if you want to reenact her live show in your living room, check out the Hannah Montana In-Concert Pop Stage.

Customer Review: Hannah Montana Doll

My daughter desperately wanted this doll for Christmas. She was thrilled with it. So far it has withstood being completly undressed, redressed, undressed, hair brushed at least a thousand times and playing the recording in the doll at least ten thousand times. My daughter loves her Hannah Montana and the doll appears to be taking the playing wear and tear fairly well. Now if I could only find more outfits for her I'd be happier. Overall a well made doll.

Customer Review: Hannah Montana Singing Doll

This doll was a gift for my six year old niece. She loves that the doll sings although it is only a short clip. She also liked the outfit on the doll as well as the pretend back stage pass.

I have four of these shawls... they're soft and just warm enough to make a difference in a chilly restaurant, or on a cool summer evening, and they go nicely with jeans or dressier outfits. I'm very happy with the quality for the price.

Customer Review: Lovely!

This is a lovely product, and at this price, it's a steal! It's warm without being too warm, stylish and pretty. very soft, not itchy at all. Fast shipping... I ordered on Thursday and it arrived on Monday.

    Customer Review: Wonderful

I love this little guy. Heats up fast and hot. I've owned a couple Foreman grills and they seem cheaper and quality, and don't seem to get hot enough to always give you nice grill marks on your meats. This is wonderful for singles or couples to cook up a couple burgers or a steak etc. Also makes nice panini. I've had mine over 2 years and its still running strong. What a bargain!

    Customer Review: Not too happy

Sorry to say, I am not happy with the HB HealthSmart Contact Grill. No temperature settings and the one time I used it one of the burgers burned slightly while the second one was ok. Regretably, when I ordered this one I did not know that there was one also available with temp. control settings which I would have preferred to purchase had I known what I know now.

I do a lot of printing and have purchased a lot of different cartridges. I now always go with the offical products by the manufactur of my printers. May cost a little more but always worth the perfect and trouble free performance.

    Customer Review: More than satisfied!!

I live in a place where apparently everyone has the same printer, and we all shop in the same place because the HP 22 is never in stock (it's an overseas military base). Well, I don't have to worry about that anymore. I'll be ordering more!
