Beginners Cook Books & More
If you are expecting guest to come to your home for dinner for the holiday season and you haven't cooked any edible meals since your childhood birthday gift, an Easy Bake Oven, practice will help you make the perfect dinner. Don't wait until the last minute to begin practicing to make your mouth watering cuisine for your dinner guest. Remember, a cook is judged by their dinner. Dinners should be planned at least 2 to 3 weeks before your guest arrive. Purchasing the right cookware along with the right recipe can make a delicious meal.
If you do not have a family heirloom such as a great aunt or grandmother's recipe or cook book to utilize, you can create your own cookbook. The first thing to do is select recipes that are easy to make--something simple yet delicious. If you are not a cooking expert, start off with something simple such as baked chicken with rice pilaf and a baked potato. As a beginner it is not recommended to start off with an extravagant recipe...less is more when it comes to cooking.
In most cases, a cook book or a recipe will recommend cookware for a particular meal. Make sure that you adhere to that advice for best results. You wouldn't want to have a disaster dinner all because you tried to cut corners. It's important to follow directions to the 'T', especially when you are cooking for guests.
Many cooks, professional and beginners take cooking lessons to help them utilize their current cookware and to learn what's up and coming in the industry. There are several options for a person who wants to learn how to cook. There are several courses available for cooks. There are cooking lessons available from top chefs on DVD. Even at a local supermarket or gourmet retail store has DVD's available on the subject of cooking for a person to take home and view at their leisure.
It's great for a beginning cook to watch demonstrations on DVD on the subject of cooking. DVDs make a fantastic learning tool. However, most good cooks are born by practicing cooking techniques via the old fashion cook book or family recipe. After spending dedicated time practicing how to cook a delicious meal for family and friends, it will sooner or later come time to get a second opinion. After you have mastered your craft by preparing delicious meals, you can begin to share your meals with friends and family members. If you receive a negative response from a family member or a friend, learn to take their criticism and make your meal 10 times better the next time you invite them for dinner.

Sense & Sensibility (Special Edition)
Sense & Sensibility (Special Edition)
Emma Thompson scores a double bull's-eye with this marvelous adaptation of Jane Austen's novel. Not only does Thompson turn in a strong (and gently humorous) performance as one of the Dashwood sisters--the one with "sense"--she also wrote the witty, wise screenplay. Austen's tale of 19th-century manners and morals provides a large cast with a feast of possibilities, notably Kate Winslet, in her pre-Titanic flowering, as Thompson's deeply romantic sister. Winslet attracts the wooing of shy Alan Rickman (a nice change of pace from his bad-guy roles) and dashing Greg Wise, while Thompson must endure an incredibly roundabout courtship with Hugh Grant, here in fine and funny form. All of this is doled out with the usual eye-filling English countryside and handsome costumes, yet the film always seems to be about the careful interior lives of its characters. The director, an inspired choice, is Taiwan-born Ang Lee, who brings the same exquisite taste and discreet touch he displayed in his previous Asian films (such as Eat Drink Man Woman). Thompson's script won an Oscar, and 1995 was a fine year for Jane Austen all around: Persuasion was made into an excellent picture, and Emma became the spritzy high school comedy Clueless. --Robert Horton
Customer Review: Involved and entertaining with a great cast list
I bought this movie for my girlfriend expecting to sleep through another Jane Austin chick flick but this one was very good! It doesn't show on the cover, but the movie has the actors who play Dr. House and Professor Snape in it. House is still greatly cynical but Snape's character is awkwardly sensitive (hilarious to compare to his other roles). Hugh Grant, however, had a weak spirited character and came across very out of place. The regular Jane Austin sarcasm came through and the drama side was surprisingly entertaining. Guys: this makes a great gift and you'll enjoy it too.
Customer Review: A must have if you are a Jane Austen fan!
Jane Austen has a way of weaving a store that keeps your interest peaked and a smile on your face. The landscape is spectacular as is the costumes. No one could go wrong with that cast.
Love it, love it, love it!
Da Ali G Show - The Complete First Season [UMD for PSP]
Da Ali G Show - The Complete First Season [UMD for PSP]
The outrageous comedy/reality series stars British chameleon Sacha Baron Cohen, who travels across America in the guise of one of three totally different characters. Cohen's primary alter-ego is Ali G., who calls himself a "hip-hop journalist", but who's really a white rapper-wannabe. When Cohen isn't putting Ali G and his "guests" in unusual and often delightfully uncomfortable situations, he's shedding his yellow gangsta track suit attire and slipping into two other memorable characters: Borat, an impossibly naive TV reporter from Kazakhstan, and Bruno, a gay, Austrian fashionista. Each of these characters will be traversing America, exploring different aspects of our culture, and interviewing real celebrities and dignitaries.

This title is very funny... buy it right now if you are into BIG laughs... you will be very pleased with your decision
Customer Review: Ali G is da man...
I wanted to write and let you know that I think this is a peculiar and particularly funny DVD collection. But I should mention that the humor really grows on you, and requires repeat viewings to catch all the double entendre and hidden jokes. Also, many of the jokes have to be heard two or three times, before they become as funny as they truly are. And believe me, they are hysterical.
Ali G is just one of the three characters played by Sacha Baron Cohen. A British humorist, from London presumably, this DVD is one funny show. Hard to believe that a Jewish man, from England, could play a "white Americaninized rapper" but play he does; with the minds and imaginations of many famous and important people. I cannot believe that he gets Boutros Boutros Kahli to rap? Amazing.
I first heard of this DVD/show from the star's interview on the Howard Stern show, and I was instantly entranced. I am a big fan of the "hidden camera" type shows (please see my other reviews) from the likes of Jamie Kennedy, and others, and assumed that this was the same type of show. But what is amazing is that everyone on the set knows they are being filmed, and yet, they continue to sit there, and take his abuse.
Howard Stern asked him his method of obtaining interviews, and Mr. Cohen could not reveal his secret for fear of not being able to repeat the process. However, it is clear, after viewing, Mr. Cohen is an expert ad-libber, and a very funny comedienne. He has my vote for funniest person from England.
My second favorite character is Bruno, the sexually confused high profile personality interviewer from Austria. He is brilliantly inept, and quite stupid. The fact that he more often interviews secondary no-body's, and doesn't get near anyone remotely famous, makes it even funnier. In one segment he is interviewing the owner of a fancy boutique, and he tells him, presumably when the film isn't rolling, to say that Madonna comes to his shop on a regular basis, 'cuz zat is much more interesting for 'ze viewers.' HILARIOUS!!!
Lastly is Borat, a Kazakhstan TV reporter who seems to limit his low command of the English Language to only the most embarrassing subjects and questions, much to the chagrin of those being interviewed. I find it hard to believe this man would even be married in his home country, but showing naked pictures of his "wife" to complete strangers is not past him. Watching him run down the streets of Manhattan after taxis is funny, and stupid at the same time. Supposedly his shows are telecast in his home country, and I suspect his "innocent foreigner" questions are what help to warm him up to his "victims." We Americans are quite trusting.
Season 2 was just released last Tuesday, 9/13/2005, and I await my UMD version from Amazon. Hopefully, I'll follow up with a review sometime next week. I give "Seazon 1" two thumbs up!!!

Having taken Wilton's candy course years ago, I wanted a refesher course. That's about all this is good for. Someone just getting started for the first time may find it a bit daunting. Enjoying the Ride
My mind was spinning and my taste buds were awakened while browsing through this BEAUTIFUL book in the bookstore. I had to run right home and find it on amazon where I knew I could get a better deal. :-)
Customer Review: Beautiful & Delicious!
I purchased Martha's special cookie magazine at Christmas a few years back, and it's simply falling apart now because I've made her cookies again and again. I was excited to see this book as a lot of my favorites from the cookie mag are included and the protective book allows me to keep these yummy recipes in one safe place. The photos are stunning - there's a pictorial table of contents (very unique!) based on things like 'soft and chewy' and 'crisp and crunchy' and there's even a delightful section in the back that shows you how to package your cookies for gifting. I simply can't wait to try the all the recipes!
The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals
The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals
A New York Times bestseller that has changed the way readers view the ecology of eating, this revolutionary book by award winner Michael Pollan asks the seemingly simple question: What should we have for dinner? Tracing from source to table each of the food chains that sustain uswhether industrial or organic, alternative or processedhe develops a portrait of the American way of eating. The result is a sweeping, surprising exploration of the hungers that have shaped our evolution, and of the profound implications our food choices have for the health of our species and the future of our planet.
Customer Review: Fantastic book
If you only read one book this year, make this that book! It is fantastic! It will change your life. The author crafts a highly intelligent and interesting journey through the food path here in the US. It is dismal. It makes me think of forgoing meat forever.
This book is a must read if you are like me....disgusted at what our "food handlers" are stuffing into our beef, pig and poultry in the name of food. How could our government let these people do this to us? It is called GREED! No other explanation needed!
You think the Chinese are bad for putting c%*p into our food? The same thing is happening here in the US.
Customer Review: i love it
the book came in a timely manner and awesome condition. it's a great book as well.
